 Nairobi is top African Investment Destination

Kenya's has been ranked as among the 120 most competitive locations for new capital in a global survey. The respected Economist Intelligence Unit report, cited Nairobi as being on top of the investors list. The survey that was commissioned by US banking giant Citi-group, is opportune as the country positions itself as Africa's hub for innovation .

The report called Hot Spots indexed countries with the worst, 0, and 100 being the best, on a pre-determined criteria. City experts, mayors and corporate executives were interviewed.

Nairobi, was ranked number 115 and attained an overall index score of 34.6 in the report that saw only seven African cities included. The Kenyan capital was placed number five in Africa in a list dominated by South African cities.

To be rated as competitive, the city ability to attract capital, businesses, talent and visitors were considered.

The announcement by the Ministry of Information that it is partnering with the World Bank to build centres of excellence to bridge an industry skills gap and improve employment opportunities is highly welcome.

According to the Information Permanent Secretary, Dr Bitange Ndemo, the deal will enable the government take the burden of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) from the private sector.

This is not the first time the government and the World Bank are partnering to help the BPO sector.

Digital villages project rolled out

Each constituency will by the end of the year boast of at least five digital centres complete with computers and Internet connectivity in a government plan to bridge the IT gap.
Safaricom, Telkom Kenya, Zain Kenya and Essar telecoms are required to roll out the digital villages as the government implements part of the Kenya Communication Amendment Act 2009 which stipulates that the Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK) levies the operators a universal access Fund of one per cent of their total revenue for the project rollout.

by piloting a project that is likely to lead to a long-term base for the global giant.
For the last two years, Accenture has engaged the Kenyan government and explored ways
to improve market and technical conditions that would lead to the first Accenture
outsourcing center in East Africa."It means a lot to Kenya for Accenture to set up its base here;
it is a leading outsourcing company and is likely to pull other outsourcing companies,"
