CISCO is holding a conference on internet connectivity and safety between the 8th and 9th 0f February, 2017 in Nairobi. CISCO is leader in networking for the Internet. Cisco solutions are the networking foundations for service providers, small to medium business and enterprise customers which includes corporations, government agencies, utilities and educational institutions.
Cisco’s networking solutions connect people, computing devices and computer networks, allowing people to access or transfer information without regard to differences in time, place or type of computer system.
Internet connectivity and cyberspace safety are some of the concerns being addressed in the meeting being held in Nairobi. Participants are expected to take advantage of CISCO’s experience and knowledge in Internet traffic travel, inventory management and internet traffic travel expenses to get the internet working effectively for their businesses and the government.
While giving his keynote address at the conference, Eng. Victor Kyalo, Principal Secretary for Information, Communications and Technologyreiterated government’s great interest in IT development and highlighted some of the main programs and projects through which it has worked very hard to improve infrastructure and internet connectivity to fast track digitalization of the economy.
Through programs initiated and/or supervised by the ICT Ministry, the Fiber Optic Cables have enabled effective traffic flow while the Constituency Innovation Hubs (CIH) are to ensure delivery of Wi-Fi and stable country wide internet connectivity. Other programs spearheaded by the ICT Ministry are the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) used to make education an equalizer of digital opportunities for all Kenya children regardless of who and where they are holistically. The Presidential Digital Talent Program (PDTP) trains Kenyan youth to harness digital knowledge in order to be creative innovators of employment while the Ajira Digital Programme (ADP) mentors and encourages the youth to take up work online to alleviate poverty.
Huduma Services and E-citizen are platforms the government has used by taking advantage of social media and the internet to offer efficient services to the public. The government has embraced technology to be able to compete favorably in the region in matters digital and internet connectivity.
